DESCRIPTION: |
North Dakota State University invites applications for a tenure-track assistant or associate professorship in Asian History (all time periods, areas, and fields welcome) to begin August 17, 2009. Teaching load is 3/2, and salary is competitive. The department of ten includes eight historians and two faculty in philosophy and religious studies. The department has 120 undergraduates, 20 graduate students, and offers a joint PhD with the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks. |
| MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: |

- Ph.D. by September 1, 2009
- Promise of scholarly excellence or solid research and publication record
- Evidence of teaching excellence
- Ability to develop and teach survey courses in Asian History and upper level/graduate courses in the area of expertise
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills

- In addition to the qualifications listed above, significant experience/accomplishments in one's area of expertise are required.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: |
- Research specialty in eastern or southern Asia
- Ability to teach courses in a secondary field such as the History of the Middle East, Africa, or World History
- Scholarly publications
- Ability to develop web-based courses

Jennifer Raveling, Undergraduate student committee member. Currently in her third year at NDSU as a triple major in history, history education, and social science education. After graduation she hopes to teach high school American and European history for a few years before possibly attending graduate school. During the academic year she works as a teacher assistant at the NDSU Center for Child Development. She is a native of Bismarck, ND.
