Community Forestry

Most of North Dakota's residents live in cities and towns. For them, natural resource management means conservation activities in city parks, tree-lined streets or other green spaces within the community.

The Community Forestry Team provides leadership and technical assistance in all phases of forestry to communities throughout the state. Program assistance includes tree selection, right tree in right location, management plans, shade tree ordinance, pest surveys and tree maintenance workshops.

The Community Forestry Team administers three forestry financial assistance programs, America the Beautiful (ATB), Community Transportation Enhancement (CTE), and Community Family Forest (CFF) Challenge Grant Programs. These programs provide financial assistance for tree planting and community forestry development projects.

Other funding opportunities that the Community Forestry Team administers are Wildland Urban Interface Community Firewise Landscape Program, Community Fire Planning Grant Program and Economic Action Program Grant.
