Community Family Forest

The purpose of the Community Family Forest (CFF) grant is to honor families in the state by planting trees in communities and to strengthen the tradition of annual tree planting. Grant funds are from voluntary contributions to the Trees for North Dakota Trust Fund. Taxpayers can contribute to this fund by earmarking a portion of their State Income Tax Refund to be placed in the Trees for North Dakota Trust Fund. The North Dakota Forest Service, in cooperation with the North Dakota Community Forestry Council administers a competitive challenge grant program. (Community Family Forest)

The North Dakota Forest Service encourages it's citizens to continue the tradition of tree planting that was started by the early settlers and those generations that followed. The Community Family Forest Grants can be used to plant trees on publicly owned or controlled land. The community is required to match at least 50% of the total cost of the project. The community's match can be in the form of cash or in-kind labor, materials, or other service. The community must seek the assistance of a professional (NDFS, NRCS, SCD, Extension, Nurserymen, etc.) in developing their project.

Eligible community projects could include, but not limited to, memorial plantings, beautification plantings, arboretums, outdoor classrooms, community windbreaks, living snow fences, recreational area protection, and park plantings.

Beulah planted trees at the community cemetery. The community's match came from in-kind labor and from citizens sponsoring a tree as a memorial.
