Dr. Jeremy Brekke has recently been appointed Associate Professor of Trumpet at North Dakota State University. A native of the area, Brekke received a B.S. in Music Education from NDSU and taught middle and high school band in Langdon, ND. He received a Doctorate of Arts in Trumpet Performance and Pedagogy and a M.M. in trumpet performance from the University of Northern Colorado, where he studied with William Pfund. Previously, Brekke was the Assistant Professor of Trumpet at Loyola University New Orleans where he taught Brass/Percussion Methods, directed various brass chamber groups, and instructed the trumpet studio. He has a very diverse background and has experience playing in a wide range of styles including with the Centennial Philharmonic in Denver, Grand Forks Symphony, Greeley Philharmonic, Fort Collins Symphony Orchestra, Central City Opera, Boulder Dinner Theatre, Denver Brass and the Royal Caribbean Cruise Line. He was the winner of the Rocky Mountain Concerto Competition in 2001, and has been the featured soloist with the Centennial Philharmonic, International Music Camp Orchestra, School of the Minds Symphonic Band, University of Northern Colorado Orchestra, Loyola Orchestra and Band, The John Philip Sousa Honor Band, and the New Orleans Civic Symphony. Just arriving from New Orleans, Brekke was musically active in the New Orleans area including performing with the Loyola Faculty Brass Quintet, Tulane Summer Lyric Theatre, John Mahoney Big Band, Dr. Jazz and the New Orleans Dixieland Sounds, and the Louisiana PHilharmonic Orchestra.
