SMUIN BALLET Suite Gershwin: April 10 & 11 at 7:30 pm
First performed in 1997, Carmina Burana is one of Smuin’s most enduring and beautiful works. Set to the majestic music of Carl Orff, this performance is a work of astonishing and powerful simplicity, a combination that creates a unique dramatic experience. Praised as “an exuberant dance” and “a gripping piece of theatre” by the San Francisco Chronicle, Carmina Burana challenges the company as they tackle the myriad of themes from joy to the cruelty of fate. Dancin’ With Gershwin is a shamelessly entertaining celebration of George and Ira Gershwin’s music, with unforgettable original recordings by Marilyn Monroe, Michael Feinstein, Nat King Cole and more. This American classic is infused with the brilliant theatricality that only Michael Smuin could provide. Ballet and Broadway dance are a passionate pas de deux, complete with luxurious costumes and sets. |
