Non-Credit Activity Information

NDSU Distance and Continuing Education's non-credit activity are classes or events that are not eligible for use in degree seeking programs. Generally these are activities for business, professional, or personal enrichment. A description is listed below of each type of non-credit activity.

Non-Credit Online Certificates or Classes

Non-credit certificate programs are offered through a partnership between NDSU Distance & Continuing Education and either Gatlin, Pro-train Online, Ed2Go, or Career Academy. A certificate of completion will be issued by NDSU Distance & Continuing Education upon successful completion of the program. These certificates are not degree eligible.

Non-credit classes are offered through a partnership between NDSU Distance & Continuing Education and either Ed2Go or Beverly Schulz. These classes are useful tools for those who want to learn a new topic or enhance their skills. These classes are not degree eligible.

Conferences/Events/Workshops

Among the non-credit learning experiences conducted are half-day seminars, satellite teleconferences, day-long workshops, as well as one and two-day conferences, coordinated for a variety of professions and/or members of the business community and state or private organizations. We also offer a professional conference planning service for a variety of customers.

Contact Hours and CEU's

Continuing Education can grant either contact-hours or Continuing Education Units (CEU's) depending on the needs of the audience. Continuing Education may record participants in the statewide continuing education computer program and can provide participants with transcripts of their activities. A Continuing Education Unit (CEU) is used for activities which do not qualify for college credit. The CEU may be used for the measurement, recording, transfer and recognition of participation by adults in non-credit activities. A CEU is defined as "ten contact hours of participation in an organized continuing education experience under responsible sponsorship, capable direction and qualified instruction."
