It is not necessary to have an undergraduate degree in a business related field in order to pursue the MBA at NDSU. Approximately one-half of the current students in the MBA program do not have undergraduate degrees in business. Six undergraduate business related courses serve as prerequisites for the graduate courses. Prospective students may apply and be accepted into the MBA program prior to taking these courses. We offer several flexible ways to meet these prerequisite course requirements. Application forms and procedures are provided in NDSU's Graduate Bulletin. Apply Online (External Page).
To complete the MBA program, students take ten, three-credit courses. Eight of these courses are specified. These core courses are in the areas of accounting, marketing, organizational behavior, economics, operations management, finance, information technology and business strategy. The latter course, Business Policy and Strategy, is normally taken in the student's final semester. Students may choose their two electives to focus their degree in a particular area of interest.
The MBA program at NDSU is a non-thesis, professional program designed to serve qualified students with undergraduate degrees in various fields. The program provides students with effective analytical skills, a broad view of organizations work, and an understanding of the functional areas of business. The program takes a generalist approach to business education, while providing a variety of electives to give the student the opportunity to pursue a particular area of interest in business or a related discipline.
MBA students work with top NDSU graduate faculty with extensive expertise from prominent research institutions and work experience -- including management of billion-dollar portfolios and applied engineering management at Fortune 500 firms.
Graduate faculty use a variety of teaching methods -- case studies, group and individual projects, field research, computer applications, class discussions and lecture – by which students expand their ability to think strategically and solve business problems.
