Skills for Interviewing

On-Campus Interviews

Surveys indicate that many employers who hire college graduates and interns utilize on-campus recruiting to initiate those hires. Working through college career centers, employers schedule campus visits to interview students for full time jobs and for internships and Cooperative Education assignments. This popular method of hiring is an excellent opportunity for students because of convenience and direct access to recruiters.
  • The majority of on-campus interviewing is held in the Ceres Hall second floor interviewing rooms. Room assignments can be found on eRecruiting.
  • Company campus visits are advertised on eRecruiting. You must be registered with the Career Center office to fully view and apply for these positions. There are two types of campus interviews - pre-select and open. Pre-select schedules require you to submit your resume for review to the listed opening. The company selects students to interview after reviewing those resumes. Open schedules have time slots available for immediate signup on eRecruiting provided you meet their minimum qualifications.
  • Companies may have requirements other than a resume. These may include a copy of your transcript, a cover letter, or their company application form. Be sure to carefully read the job posting to get this information.

Informational Meeting/Events

Many employers who come on campus to interview will host informational meetings/events to explain positions, describe their organization and to answer questions. They provide valuable information to help you prepare for your interview and should be attended by anyone with a scheduled interview.

Informational meetings are often scheduled the evening before the on-campus interview and are open to any interested student. You may RSVP to these meetings through eRecruiting.
