First Impression?

Accounting - Very casual - young looking.

Ag Business - Trendy outfit. Not interested in finding a job, but looking for something of interest.

Ag Lending - Looks like something to be worn for casual events - sporting - or school.

Ag Processing - Applying for a seasonal position or summer work or even an entry level position this would be appropriate.

Education / K-12 - This is very "college casual."

Engineering - Civil/Construction - Fairly causal and reflects a certain lack of maturity. It might be OK for an undergraduate at a career fair.

Engineering - Construction - This individual is looking for a skilled craft, manual-labor type job.

Engineering - Manufacturing - Looks great, but really casual!

Engineering - Manufacturing - Casual, friendly, approachable, not seriously looking for a job. Looks like a student.

Financial - Casual.

Healthcare - Neat in appearance, ready to go out for some fun. The shoes don't seem to fit with the outfit.

Health Insurance - Casual.

Hospitality - This person is not quite ready for management. They do not know that clothes worn in the hospitality industry are very important to the level of credibility and leadership accountability of the facility.

Information Technology - This looks like your typical college students dress for class.

Marketing - Young. Warm. Pretty. Casual. Ready to go out or meet friends.

Medical Device / Biotechnology - Casual.

Retail Merchandising - A great outfit for going to college on a fall/ winter day.

Appropriate to wear to an Interview?

Ag Business - No. She is not professionally dressed. You always want to dress equal to or better than your interviewer.

Education / K-12 - This would not be appropriate. Jeans are inappropriate and the open sandals and t-shirt only compliment the casualness of the outfit.

Hospitality - No, not for management or supervisory positions. Shown attire would be acceptable for entry-level positions, possibly.

Information Technology - No. This is very casual. This outfit does not suggest that your interview is a special or important event. It also does not make you look professional or present yourself in a professional light.

Marketing - No. Far too casual for any industry.

Medical Device / Biotechnology - This is not appropriate to wear to an interview.

Retail Merchandising - Absolutely not.

Accounting, Ag Lending, Ag Processing, Engineering - Civil/Construction, Engineering - Construction, Engineering - Manufacturing, Engineering - Manufacturing, Financial, Healthcare, Health Insurance - No.

Appropriate to wear to a Career Fair?

Ag Business - I would not recommend this because I see a lot of people like this come after class and look through the career fair and find something that they really like and start up a conversation and employer makes judgment.

Education / K-12 - Yes, if the school were going on a picnic or outdoor event.

Engineering - Civil/Construction - Again, it might be OK for an undergraduate at an informal career fair. I would recommend that seniors dress more formally to reflect maturity and the importance of this process. I plan to hire adults--not kids.

Engineering - Manufacturing - No - best to make a professional impression.

Engineering - Manufacturing - No, too casual; unless student is seeking out information about employers.

Hospitality - Only if the facility is outdoors and all the guests were in same or more casual attire.

Information Technology - I do not feel this would be a good outfit to wear to a career fair if you are trying to sell yourself to an employer for a full time or internship position. You want to make a lasting and positive first impression and this outfit does not set you apart from the rest.

Marketing - No. Too casual.

Medical Device / Biotechnology - This is not appropriate to wear to a career event.

Retail Merchandising - Jeans are never appropriate for an event where you are talking to potential employers. She would look completely out of place in the group of attendees.

Accounting, Ag Lending, Ag Processing, Engineering - Construction, Financial, Healthcare, Health Insurance - No.
