DRESSING FOR SUCCESS

Don't let your apparel sabotage your chance to impress a potential employer.

Whether you like it or not, people size you up in a very short time - about 3-5 seconds. Your apparel, demeanor and mannerisms will be factors in determining whether someone wants to continue a conversation with you or not.

In a job search, what you wear, how you stand, shake hands, smile and what you say will create that important first impression and will definitely affect whether an employer will consider you for hire.

Your image has the power to affect people emotionally and intellectually, projecting that you have or do not have confidence and professional potential to be successful. Because the impression your visual image makes on potential employers is so important, the Career Center asked employers from the following industries which apparel is best for a first impression, an interview and a career fair:

  • Accounting
  • Ag Business
  • Ag Lending
  • Ag Processing
  • Education / K-12
  • Engineering - Civil/Construction
  • Engineering - Construction
  • Engineering - Manufacturing
  • Financial
  • Healthcare
  • Hospitality
  • Information Technology
  • Marketing
  • Medical Device / Biotechnology
  • Retail Merchandising

to dress to make the right impression on potential employers.
