Since 1992 the center has obtained externally-funded research projects totaling $2.8 million from the National Science Foundation, the U.S. Department of Agriculture, various crop growers associations and private industries.
Selected solutions being developed in the center:
A computer imaging system for color classification and texture evaluation of French fries.
An intelligent pattern recognition technique for chromosome recognition.
"FrybleMax," a prototype expert system for French fry processing that assists the operator to control the blanching operation and, as a result, improve the quality of French fries.
Sensors for real-time determination of various constituents/quality parameters of agricultural and food products for processing, food safety and precision farming applications.
A novel-imaging system and techniques for evaluation of spray coverage on plant leaves that assist farmers with precision chemical application and pollution prevention.
An automated quality evaluation system to enhance edible bean marketability that employs computer imaging.
