Learn about Norwegian culture, society and language

Why Study in Norway?
Norway is a beautiful country of about four million citizens dedicated to democracy. Norwegians also embrace environmentalism, social health care, free education, and human rights. This rugged, mountainous country in northern Europe is very involved in the international political scene and has much to offer. Participants from the U.S., Norway, Namibia and other parts of the world gather for this semester together.

Study options:

1.  SOCIETY AND CULTURE
Hedmark University College offers many options for students who wish to study in Norway. There is a special fall semester course (12 weeks) called "Society and Culture" that includes four determined modules relating to the study of Norway, the Norwegian welfare state and current social challenges. This option includes an internship and an independent studies project.

Living in a democratic society, we often take for granted all the ways decisions are made on a daily basis. The structure of society affects everyone, from biology students to music professors to newborn babies and the elderly. This program teaches you to be a better global citizen, aware of the world around you and ready for the significant role you play in determining the future of our planet. It stresses communication, peace-building and environmental considerations and it's hosted in the country deemed number one on the World Health Organization standard of living index in 2001--beautiful Norway.

**Fall semester only**

2.  NORWEGIAN LANGUAGE AND CULTURE FOR FOREIGN STUDENTS - click here for PDF -
Especially for foreign exchange students or students looking to continue a degree in Norway, the Norwegian and Culture for Foreign Students program is worth an entire year's credits of study.  The aim of the program is to provide students with enough knowledge of the language and culture of Norway to eventually be able to function in the Norwegian university system.  Each semester ends with a written and oral examination.
**Fall or entire academic year, only**

3.  REGULAR COURSES IN ENGLISH (pdf file, please see page 11 for English courses)

Is it fun?
Yes!! This program lets you live in Norway, not just be a tourist. Through seminars and field trips and everyday interaction with people from different parts of the globe, everyone not only learns more about the world, but about themselves. And above all, spending a semester in Norway is an experience of a lifetime!
