Have you ever thought about studying abroad
in Chile?
Universidad Mayor in Chile is one of NDSU's newest exchange partners. Exchange spots are still available for Spring 2009 study abroad. $750 scholarships are available. Applicants must have knowledge of the Spanish language.   This exchange program is geared towards students with at least 2 years of college-level Spanish.

(more continued below)

The Universidad Mayor has campuses in the cities of Santiago and Temuco. The capital city of Santiago is located in the central part of Chile (population 5.5+ million) while Temuco (population 300,000+) is located about 430 miles to the south. Click here to read some interesting facts about the country of Chile: http://worldatlas.com/webimage/countrys/samerica/cl.htm

Areas of study offered include Architecture, Art, Theatre, Communication, Business, Engineering, Education, Psychology, Social Sciences and others.  Majors offered at the Universidad Mayor complement the areas of study offered at NDSU.  For a list of departments of study at Universidad Mayor, please click the link "Facultades y Carreras" along the left-hand side of the following page:   http://www.umayor.cl/ (Spanish language only)

Housing and meals  Options for housing include homestays and private apartments.  Prices of housing varies according to type of housing (host family, renting student apartment, etcetera).  Living with family (+meals, laundry) = $450/month; renting with other students = $170; meals per day $10; lunch at university cafeteria $2.50.  Recommended cost of living per month is $700.

Intensive Spanish  An intensive Spanish language course is available to exchange students and is recommended for NDSU students.  This 100 hour program is offered in in July and February, prior to the semester start in Chile. It is designed for students who already have a strong knowledge of the language and want to sharpen their Spanish skills to be successful in their immersion experience. The cost for this special course is separate from the tuition cost for the regular semester: http://rrii.umayor.cl/004_idiomas_00.htm  Cost is approximately $600, plus $500 for host family stay plus two meals/day.

Scholarships  Exchange spots are available for Fall 2007 and Spring 2008 study abroad, and partial scholarships are also available to students who will be studying at the Universidad Mayor.  More than one scholarship may be awarded - with the award being in the amount of $750 per student.
