Study Abroad Pre-departure Checklist

To avoid obstacles and problems before, during and after your study abroad experience, it is essential that you complete the following tasks well in advance of your departure. Make an appointment with your Study Abroad Advisor if you have questions about any of the steps.

• Obtain Passport

• Complete host school application

• Obtain student visa

•  Attend mandatory Pre-Departure Orientation at NDSU

• Complete Study Abroad Course Plan

• Complete Study Abroad Financial Aid Worksheet (if using financial aid)

• Verify CampusConnection registration for UNIV 492 study abroad credits at NDSU

• Verify health insurance coverage

• Obtain and confirm flight arrangements

• Confirm money matters

• Purchase ISIC (International Student Identity Card)

• Obtain optional insurance for valuables (laptop, camera, etc.)

• Obtain necessary medical papers

• Make photocopies of all important documents to leave at home and to have with you, as well

• Prepare for cultural adjustments by speaking to study abroad alumni and international students and reading about your host country and school
