Congratulations on your admission to North Dakota State University.
We, at the Association of Students from India (ASI), extend
a warm welcome to you.
The ASI is a non-profit organization to create an awareness
of our rich culture and heritage. The activities spans from
organizing cultural and social get together to addressing the
concerns of the Indian students. Membership is open to all students,
faculty, and staff members of North Dakota State University
for a nominal fee per year.
North Dakota's largest and most metropolitan city, Fargo is
located on the state's eastern border, across the Red River.
Since this state is located far from the tempering effect of
the oceans and the Great Lakes, it has the extreme temperature
swings: frigid cold in winter and impressive heat during the
brief summer. The best way to get to Fargo is by air. The regional
carriers Northwest Airlines and United Airlines serve the Hector
International airport at Fargo via Minneapolis or Chicago.
Given the time of arrival, the association will provide transport
from the airport and help find temporary accommodation. Most
of the Indian students share apartments either in the University
village (on campus) or off-campus. On average, the living expenses
including rent, food and other basic expenses comes to $350
per month, and this figure is based on sharing the costs with
two other students. It would be a good idea to get provisions
with you from home such as pulses, pickles, instant mixes, spices
and some basic medicines. Health insurance is a must for all
International Students. Winter wear is very important. Most
of the clothing is available in Fargo at reasonable prices.
We organize social gatherings for key festivals and cricket
matches. To gear you up for the initial socio-cultural change,
the Office of International Programs organizes international
student orientation for more information on the university and
the city of Fargo.
