University Assessment Committee Minutes 
Thursday, March 30, 2000, 2:00 p.m.

Minutes

1.  There were no corrections to the minutes of the March 2, 2000,  meeting.

Announcements None

Reports 

1. Latimer reported that there was good attendance at the March 23rd
    luncheon honoring the Department of Communications.  Approximately 77 faculty 
    and staff attended. 

2.  The Department of Communication was very pleased with the recognition.  Each
     participant from the Department of Communication received an e-mail message 
     thanking them for their participation.

3.  Harrold thanked Kostecki for serving as Master of Ceremonies for the event.

4.  Changes suggested for the April 25th luncheon would be preprinted 
    name tags and either a check off list for names or a sign-up sheet 
    on each table to help save time for people attending the luncheon.

Unfinished Business

1.  The agenda for Dr. Wresch's visit on April 10-11 was discussed.  UAC members
     will have lunch with Dr. Wresch on April 10 in the Memorial Union Plains Room. 
     Harrold will present the opportunity to Dr. Wresch to meet for breakfast on the 10th 
     or 11th with members of the UAC .

2.  Dr. Wresch will also visit with the Department of Veterinary Science/
    Microbiology, the School of Education and the UAC Gen Ed Subcommittee/
    UAC Steering Subcommittee on April 10, 2000.

3.  Dr. Wresch's Open Forum is at 1:00-2:00 on April 11 in the Prairie Rose Room.
     Invitations have been sent to faculty.  An announcement of  Dr. Wresch's visit was 
     sent to  "It's Happening at State" on March 30th for publication in the April 5, 
     2000, issue. 

3.  The April 25 luncheon to recognize the Department of Nursing was discussed.   This
     event will be held in the Prairie Rose Room of the Memorial Union.  The Events 
     Subcommittee will meet at 2 p.m. on Thursday, April 6 to discuss and finalize plans 
     for the Luncheon.

4.  Draft 4 of the Guidelines for Assessment 1999-2000 was discussed.  Harrold read 
     de Haan's comments to the committee.  A motion to approve draft 4 of the 
      guidelines for 1999-2000 assessment reports (Shaw, Kuzel) received 
      unanimous approval. 

5.  Kostecki reported that development of guidelines for units in Student Affairs is 
     continuing.

New Business

1.  Susan Hatfield's visit to the campus next October was discussed.  It was discussed
     whether she should visit for 2 or 3 days.  It was decided that Harrold would check
     with Susan Hatfield to see how much time she would need to serve as external 
     evaluator for Bush grant activities and as a speaker on assessment of student
     learning.  This will be discussed further at the next meeting on April 13, 2000.

2.  Harrold distributed an article by Trudy Banta and encouraged members 
     to consider the points emphasized in the reprint.

Meeting was adjourned at 3:45.
